The Prophetic Voice of Our City

Christians are dangerously close to confusing our faith and our politics.  The latter must be informed by the former, and not the other way around.  Still, we must be the prophetic voice of our communities.  We cannot just protest from our church buildings, we must be out with and among people, with the message of grace as well as judgment, and the credibility of those who know because we are informed, part of the process, and known by our neighbors and leaders.

Christians stand in a unique position to both educate and influence one another and the world around us.  Biblically, we have the mandate to be involved in every aspect of that world, with the aim of representing God and leading others to him.  Traditionally, that is not a mandate Christians have shied from in the least.  Our actions must also be tempered with and performed in love, as is also our biblical mandate.

Nevertheless, as Christians wisely choose which issues they must speak to, they inevitably assume the role of prophet.  As such, we must be careful not to divide God’s people against themselves over political issues, while seeking at the same time to provide intelligent and courageous action arising out of the inspired word of God.

We are the prophetic voice in our community.
